Tony Carroll

Carroll’s a top horseman

We were absolutely delighted with Poetic Force’s win at Brighton last week that followed from his somewhat unlucky loss a fortnight ago. Four-horse races are just as exciting as big-field contests and our runner sat last, most of the way, in a race that looked for a long way as if the first four would finish in the same order they’d started.

But jockey Jason Watson was just biding his time and when he stepped on the gas at the furlong pole, Poetic Force quickened away and won a good race. The eight-year-old by Lope De Vega has done us proud this year with six stake cheques from six runs, including two wins. He’s in the form of his life and we look forward to see where trainer Tony Carroll will place him next.

We, and IRC members, are enjoying Tony’s voice notes, pre-race. He’s a shrewdie, really, a horseman of note who knows exactly what is going on in his yard. It’s a pleasure to be involved with Tony and we’re already awaiting his advice on Winnetka’s run in the 18:10 at Windsor tonight, he’s opened at 16-1.
