Love: Will to win times 10!

Love dug deep to win the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot in her first race for 10 months.

Last year’s 1,000 Guineas and Oaks victor, ridden by Ryan Moore, held off Audarya to give trainer Aidan O’Brien a 75th career victory at the meeting.

The dual Classic winner won by three-quarters of a length and is now the joint third-highest rated horse in the world.

“We knew she was going to come on a lot for the run. She’s very genuine and very brave,” said O’Brien.

“I knew watching Ryan’s body language, the mare was down galloping with her head on the ground and she was waiting for Ryan to grind her and say ‘come on’ and I knew when he would do that she would find for him and that’s exactly what he did.

“She gives all this filly. It’s a pleasure and a privilege to have her.

“It’s an unbelievable trait [not knowing how to lose]. Probably the most important trait in any thoroughbred and she has it in spades, multiplied by ten.

“She gives everything, there is nothing left, nothing spared, whatever you want she’s there to answer all the time.”

There’s no doubt she will improve for this and we have not seen the best of her by a long way. It might be the same for the remarkable O’Brien outfit after the trainer equalled Henry Cecil’s record of winners with Love’s victory.
